William F. Henaghan
William F. "Billy" Henaghan, 56, of Bowie, formerly of Frostburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, with the love of his life for 35 years (married for 25 years), Mary Pratt-Henaghan, by his side, after undergoing treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Born on Nov. 13, 1962, in Cumberland, he was the son of William "Bill" and Christina Carrington Henaghan.
In addition to his wife, Mary, and his parents, he is survived by his brother, Bernard "Bernie" Henaghan, of Frostburg; three aunts, Joan Bosley, Rebecca "Becky" Carrington, and Maria Connor and husband, Brian, all of Frostburg; two sisters-in-laws, Beth Ann Clark and husband, Robert, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Tamara McAteer, of Frostburg; two nephews, a niece, and numerous cousins. He will also be dearly missed by his loyal Sheltie dog, Tallon.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bernard "Bernie" and Marion (Porter) Henaghan and his maternal grandparents, Francis "Jake" and Martha "Marty" (Eby) Carrington.
Billy graduated from Beall High School in 1980 and received his undergraduate degree in geography and social sciences from Frostburg State College, and his MA degree in geography and Urban Planning from the University of Maryland, College Park.
After 30 years of government service with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Billy began a second career with the Potomac Financial Group, as a financial advisor, Raymond James Financial Services. While with the M-NCPPC, Billy held several positions from a planner to budget/legislative coordinator, Departmental Budget Manager, and most recently as Administrative Services Division Chief. Billy's strong background in budget, financial management and administration prepared him well for his second career which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Billy and his wife Mary have always been very active University of Maryland Athletic Department supporters, both financially and with their time mentoring students. After 25 years of membership and service to the Terrapin Club, they were recently honored by being inducted into the Terrapin Club Victory Circle, which recognizes the commitment of donors to supporting the student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
Billy's proudest accomplishment was the work he did mentoring young people-encouraging and supporting them in every way possible, and he was available to them 24/7. He could not have been more proud of their many accomplishments, and his legacy lives on through them.
In his leisure time, Billy was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his many close friends at his "home" clubs-the Country Club at Woodmore, the Cumberland Country Club, and Maplehurst. He was also a fitness enthusiast and enjoyed exercising, running, and biking. In his spare time, he could be found watching or attending any and every basketball game he could find.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Michael Church in Frostburg on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. by close personal friend, the Rev. James Greenfield, OSFS, who also married Billy and Mary 25 years ago.
Interment will be at Frostburg Memorial Park.
Celebration of his life will also be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Newton White Mansion, 2708 Enterprise Road, Mitchellville, MD 20721.
Pallbearers are Perry Connor, Joe Crawford, Christopher Crawford, Matt Crawford, Bobby Haislip, Phil Hager, Danny Spangler.
Honorary pallbearers are Mark Bittner, Gary Donius, Gary Hanna, Bruce Hanna, Scott Parry, Mickey Robinson, Jimmy Spangler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Resources for Independence, 735 East Oldtown Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
John Michaels, Assistant Director of Resources for Independence, was a special friend and constant source of support and inspiration to Billy. On July 20, 2019, Billy was proud to have sponsored a team and played in the 2019 RFI Golf Tournament, his last round of golf.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Billy's wife Mary and his Mom and Dad, Tina and Bill at his passing. His priest friend told, so very well, what a special person he was. That could only happen with the nurturing and love that you three had shown him over the years.

Mary and Bill's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Bill was a special person and even though I didn't know him very long (through Potomac Financial Group), I feel blessed to have known him and called him a friend. He was what I called "good people".
