Byron, MN - William "Bill" D. Jones passed away May 13, 2026, in Rochester, Minn. He was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Frostburg, Md., to Lottie M. and William L. Jones.

He graduated from Beall High School in 1947 and attended Chicago Teacher's College with minor coursework at the University of Maryland and the University of Minnesota. Following 22 years of military and government service, Bill served as Public Safety Director and Assistant Director, Physical Plant, Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. From 1973 to 1994, he was employed as Head of Security Section, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Bill was a current or former member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Military Society, National Rifle Association, Association of Retired OSI Special Agents, International Association of College and University Security Directors, and several other associations.

Bill enjoyed golfing, hunting in Colorado and Wyoming, boating and traveling.

Preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Rena and Audrey, Bill is survived by daughters, Terri (Scott) Oen, Oregon City, Ore., and Susan (Joe) Huber, Seattle, Wash.; and three wonderful grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Lily; and nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws scattered around Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan and other locations.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bill on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron, Minn.
